In year 5 this week, we have been doing lots of fabulous learning about place value. We have partitioned numbers, compared and ordered them. We have also begun to demonstrate our reasoning skills, using mathematical vocabulary to explain what we think and how we know something.
Mr Matthew took a group of children to practise demonstrating their reasoning skills using 4-digit numbers. The children were asked to choose any object from the classroom to represent each digit. Some chose lego, some chose dinosaurs, some even chose scissors and glue sticks! Once they had chosen how they wanted to represent the numbers, the children then had to write the value of each digit in figures and explain how their objects represented the number.
They all made great progress and are now raring to tackle even larger numbers!
